Hi all

As mentioned to Mike Dales this morning when I commented on his "Mind the Gap" shot, I was about to take a walk around the Golf Course in Woodenbridge in the Vale of Avoca. In fact I posted the comment while sitting in the car park. Anyone who knows County Wicklow will know that the Valley has a reputation as being one of the most beautiful places in the country. Personally I would dispute that fact vehemently having lived both in the heart of the valley at one time and in a couple of much nicer places at other times. I'm afraid it's a question of a fiercely proud local populace rather trading on past glories. In the horse and cart era it was doubtless a remote and very beautiful place but with the arrival of motor transport there has come also, too many people and too much litter. A faded glory I'm afraid. However, there are a few very charming spots left and the Golf Course is one of them. Having had a couple of things to do early this morning, it was rather late by the time I got there... like 9:15 but there was still some frost about and the sun wasn't yet too high in the sky. All had changed within 30 minutes or so though, so tomorrow morning I plan a return visit, if I can clamber out of the bed early enough to get there (only 15 mins drive) while the sun is still low on the horizon. It is a very frosty night again so there should be plenty of glistening white stuff about in the morning.

Meanwhile, here is my best effort from this morning. Anyone like it or even hate it? If I make it out tomorrow, I will post another one in the evening time. 'Night all,

Joe

Hi Joe
Not a bad one..the trees stand out well against the background but I'm not sure if the composition is strong enough to hold the shot as it is. The dreaded four elements to start with and not one that stands out to hold the eye. I find it a split image, but great to see you out there at the sharp end on these frosty days.

I like this and could just imagine a 40 x 23 inch canvas print hanging behind a golf club reception desk. Not all photos are made to conform to a stilted competition aesthetic.

My worry is of a different nature: what on earth is drawing Joe towards the golf club? You are far too young to be getting a hankering for that malarkey!

Joe
Just so long as you use Golf courses to shoot photos on you'll be OK !!.
Not sure I like this one too much, very centrally placed elements that tend to split the frame. I think this is an image which could be used to enhance spaces in the shot, if the trees were to the right of frame and even more darkness and foreground perhaps. I would love to see the next shot with the frosty ground  eh!!
